Dear Lex Customer:
We have been notified by Underwriters Laboratories
(UL) about requirement changes that affects our E-String Multi-Receptacle
Extension Cords. When extensions are dropped or placed on the ground,
the receptacles may no longer face upwards. Also, UL has also determined
that extensions with more than three receptacles must have a NEMA
5-20 plug, not the NEMA 5-15, parallel blade plug which are on the
current E-Strings. To our knowledge, these changes are not the result
of any problems in the field, but rather a review of a relatively
new product category.
We have now re-designed our existing E-String product
line to meet these new requirements. I’m confident you will
be pleased with the newly redesigned product. It was submitted to
UL for testing and has been issued a new UL Listing. The redesigned
changes are as follows:

• The existing 25 foot
E-String with four (4) receptacles has been replaced with
a new 25 foot version with three (3) receptacles; it will
retain the NEMA 5-15 plug.
• E-strings that have more than
3 receptacles will now have a NEMA 5-20, 20 Amp Edison
plug, with blades at right angles, in lieu of the previously
used NEMA 5-15, parallel blade.
• The new receptacles will now drop
or lay facing sideways instead of facing up as in the previous
E-Strings
• To accommodate customers who still
may require a parallel blade device, there is an adapter
available that will accept the NEMA 5-20 plug and convert
it to a NEMA 5-15, parallel blade plug. Please refer to the
table below for the new part numbers. |
