US Army Awards Intelligent Power Distribution Research Project

October 09, 2009

The U.S. Army Communications-Electronics Command (CECOM) has awarded Lex Products a contract to develop an intelligent portable electrical power distribution system for the Army. The new system, tagged IPMDS (Intelligent Power Management and Distribution System) will be developed to incorporate automatic phase balancing, ground fault protection and enhanced 24/7 power distribution reliability. It is intended to be fully automated, reducing soldier support, intervention, and training.

The Lex project team will create a durable, intelligent power management system, with field deployable 100 Amp and 40 Amp distribution units. The completed development project will result in improved unit mission readiness and enhanced electrical safety for the warfighter.

The project will start immediately, and prototypes are expected by Q2-2010.
